Wedding Recap: The Greatest Party of the Century
April 6th, 2019 - a day that has gone down in history as the most loved I have ever felt. The day was perfect. There wasn’t a single cloud in the sky, it was 75 degrees, and I even had a moment to meditate when I first woke up.
April 6th, 2019 was my wedding day.
It was the day I had been dreaming of since I was a little girl. One of the happiest days of my life. Well, up until now, THE happiest day of my life.
It’s been over a month since then and I’m finally sitting down to reflect and share with you all how this glorious day came to be.
If you’re engaged, GREAT. If you’re single and lookin’ to pin, GREAT. Wherever you are on the spectrum, I hope that by reading this you are filled with joy, inspiration, and a little glimpse into what the perfect wedding looks like (perfection in my eyes, at least!).
A year prior to our wedding, Corey and I made an appointment after I found The Villa San Juan Capistrano on a Pinterest board. We made the trek up from San Diego with my mom (only an hour north of San Diego and 1 ½ south of LA) and were stunned when we walked into the venue.
Romantic, European-inspired, cozy and private is how I would describe the Villa. We hadn’t visited any other venues and we didn’t need to. I knew right away that I wanted to get married there - it was an easy decision.
The Villa San Juan Capistrano is located in the heart of San Juan Capistrano near the Mission. The owners of the Villa also own a local farm to table restaurant that is walking distance and equally as cozy and cute as the venue itself.
There is a kitchen on the property, bridal and groom suite, and the sweetest bar that seriously reminds me of a Disney movie. The venue has EVERYTHING and we loved the convenience of picking out a food + bar package that was included with the buyout fee.
Corey and I got engaged 1 ½ year before the big day, so I opted to skip the wedding planner, but the venue did require a day of planner which makes TOTAL sense. Ladies, whether you get married at the Villa or another venue, do yourself a favor and get a day of planner at a minimum. Working with Joy n Company made the entire process so easy and stress-free because let’s be real: a wedding planner does this ALL THE TIME and *usually* this is your first rodeo.
There were so many small details I never would have thought of like place cards, a seating chart, the welcome table, a card box...you get the point. There’s a LOT that can be missed if you don’t have a pro on your side.
Rachel from Joy n Company was literally my fairy godmother. As I mentioned, we hired her for the day, but we had multiple calls throughout the year prior where we walked down a checklist to keep us on track. Like I said - I did not stress AT ALL because of her! Even the day-of was so seamless and I have her guidance and warm energy to thank for that.
Besides the venue, flowers were the most important part of the day for me. I had a very specific vibe I was going for and Malorie from Collected With Love absolutely nailed it. Of course, I thought bougainvillea as the main flower would be super easy given that it grows like a weed literally everywhere, but apparently I was wrong. It’s super finnicky to work with and not a florists friend.
Needless to say, Malorie still managed to take bougainvillea and incorporate it - finnicky-ness and all!
Okay, I know I’ve had like a trillion “weddings” over the past few months that have been showcased all over Instagram (forever grateful for these opportunities), but the real deal wedding photos were taken by my girl, Sara Whittaker, of Pink Feather Photography.
Sara is INCREDIBLE.
We’ve worked with her on a number of styled shoots and loved having her shoot our wedding as well. Plus, the photos were AMAZING. Quick tip: Create a Pinterest folder of photos you want to recreate! This helped us capture some shots that we probably wouldn’t have thought of the day of and are so happy that we had it stored in our back pocket!
Also, if you’re wondering who that pretty dog is, it’s PENNY! She was our flower girl :)
It’s probably not a surprise that I was a #BHLDNBride! BHLDN is my absolute favorite bridal company on the face of this planet for a number of reasons. One, their dresses are gorgeous, classy and ready-to-wear. Second, they are AFFORDABLE. When I was first looking at dresses online (okay, when I was like 20 years old, single and super active on Pinterest), I was blown away by the prices of some of the dresses I found. $10,000…$15,000… WHAT! For a single day? That’s insane to me.
BHLDN dresses are a fraction of the price and so gorgeous. My dress was the most perfect design ever and I think I need to go try it on right now…
Okay, back to the blog - I wore the “Beloved” gown and loved the classic and elegant cut on the front, yet lace detail with vintage buttons on the back. It was beautiful, end of story. My bridesmaids also opted for BHLDN and I absolutely love the way their dresses turned out!
P.S. Ya girl likes to dance so after the father daughter dance, I opted for a jumpsuit from BHLDN so I could shake my tush.
The Hair + Makeup
A few months before Corey and I got engaged, I won an Instagram giveaway for a couple’s photoshoot that would include hair, makeup and photos. Corey thought I was nuts, I knew I was manifesting an engagement ring. (Kidding, but not really)
It was at that photoshoot that I met the amazing Corie Ambert and Katie Duckor who became two necessary parts of the bridal dream team. They both did an amazing job and worked SO fast so my girls and I could get back to drinking Veuve and watching Beyonce music videos.
Plus, how gorgeous did hair and makeup turn out?
Holy moly, ladies. Getting a raw vegan cake was the best decision, EVER. My girlfriend tagged me on an Instagram post of @MeetTheSource and I knew from the moment I saw her gorgeous cakes that we were going to have her at the wedding.
Now, this isn’t always the best choice if you have picky guests or someone with a nut allergy (sorry, sis), but we absolutely loved the cakes we got. I mean, how could you not when it looks like this?!
The day of the wedding was beyond perfect. We laughed, I cried, I stuck Q-tips in my tear ducts so my makeup wouldn’t run...I stuffed my face with food, drank lots of champagne, and danced until I got dizzy (worth it). If I could give one piece of advice to future Mrs. it would be to lighten up and remember that once it is the day of, you are ALL DONE. There is nothing left to do besides enjoy yourself, be present, and laugh with your friends and family. Plus, the day goes by so fast, so cherish every moment and don’t forget to breathe!
