"Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for abundance." - Eckhart Tolle
Eckhart Tolle is full of inspirational advice and provided his readers with an abundance of spiritual wisdom and a realistic perception of life. With today's quote, we are asked to look at our lives and acknowledge the good. For some, this can be really easy, but for others it can be hard. I don't blame them. Sometimes shit happens and it seems like everything absolutely sucks, but does it? Well, I can't serve blanket statements on a platter of happiness and silver-linings, but most of the time, no, not everything sucks.
It's hard to see good when it's clouded by negativity, but if we take the time to shed light on the positives within our life, we have room to flourish. This is why I love The Five-Minute Journal so much. Even on bad days, I am forced to list things that happened to make the day amazing. When you are able to notice a few happy things in your life or in your...
"The thing about rising is we have to continue upward. The thing about going beyond is we have to keep going. Every last one of us can do better than give up." - Cheryl Strayed
Cheryl Strayed is the author of the #1 New York times bestselling memoir WILD, which may be recognized from the Oscar-nominated movie adaptation starring Reese Witherspoon. I love this quote because there is so much substance to it and so much that can be extracted.
For me, I like to interpret this as perseverance. When we look at progressing through life whether that be at a skill or in your career, the general goal is keep moving up and rising from one level to the next. Think of it like playing a video game. If we continue to keep playing and succeeding, we move up to the next level. When we give up, we either lose our place or remain stagnant.
Life has ups and downs as we all know, but the words "Every last one of us can do better than give up," is so incredibly important to keep in mind when we...
"Stop asking what others can do for us, and start asking what we can do for others." - Austin Kleon
Austin Kleon is a New York Times best selling author with work focusing on creativity in today's world. While this quote can be interpreted in a multitude of ways, I like to think about it on a level of creating your success and how others fit into that picture. As a marketing professional, my mind goes straight to how to sell your brand.
One of the first thoughts that I had when launching this blog was "Who in my network can help me with promotion?" This question is obviously viable, but is there a more effective and long-term solution to go about reaching that level of achievement? Yes, there is.
When we think about what we can do for others, we are putting ourselves into their shoes and creating with their interests in mind. From the start of marketing and advertising, it's always been about what the end-consumer wants. If you nail that, you end up successfully...
"The obstacle is an advantage, not adversity. The enemy is any perception that presents us from seeing this." - Ryan Holiday
This quote from author Ryan Holiday is pulled from his book The Obstacle Is The Way which is an incredible read all about overcoming challenges and obstacles and turning them into advantages. To put this daily motivation into play, it is important to have a sense of awareness of our perception or to at least be more cognitive when it comes to dealing with our perception of obstacles as the discipline is within controlling emotions and focusing on the power we have to overcome. Many times when we are presented with a challenge, our emotions and thoughts run haywire making it hard for us to see the light at the end of the tunnel, let alone an advantage or opportunity within the challenge. We can get so lost in our perception of situations and of ourselves that we hinder our ability to succeed. We create our reality through our perception.
There’s no shame in feelin’ yourself. In fact, you can LOVE yourself and FEEL yourself at the same time. I seriously recommend it, queue a sassy Beyonce song and you’re all set for the best day of your life. However, there is so much depth and presence in loving yourself that feelin’ yourself just doesn’t quite accomplish. To separate them in a broad sense, I’d say feelin’ yourself is the more superficial “what’s on the outside” version of loving yourself. It’s the fleeting feeling versus that lasting, rich and juicy L-O-V-E.
When you feel yourself, you wake up in the morning and need a mirror to remind you of how beautiful you are. But when you love yourself, you wake up with an instant smile on your face and gratification that you have another day to live. Your hair might be disheveled and your breath probably wreaks, but damnit you’re beautiful!
Loving yourself does not come easy and I am quite...
"To avoid criticism, say nothing, do nothing, be nothing." - Fred Shero
Fred Shero was a Canadian hockey player, coach, and manager that was no stranger to the Stanley Cup, which he won twice with the Philadelphia Flyers. After reading this quote for the first time this morning, I decided it is one of my all-time favorite quotes. I love the sarcastic undertone of it and the blatant picture it paints.
You are always going to get criticism from someone, somewhere.
If we chose to spend our lives tip-toeing around the things we want to accomplish and the dreams we want to achieve, we'll get nowhere. Seriously, mankind would get nowhere. That cellphone you have? Poof, gone. A cure for malaria, YEAH RIGHT!
You have to take chances and have the confidence in yourself that what you're doing is right. Sure, getting criticized is rough, especially if the delivery isn't aligned with the way you communicate, but we can't control other people. You can't control their likes and their...
"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." - Walt Disney
Oh Walt, you are so full of inspiration that leaves a resounding affect on the generations to come.
Do you ever feel like something is missing from your life? Like you long for more adventure, more creativity, more oomph? Do you spend your days picturing yourself breaking free from your desk job or the night shift to pursue a life of wholeness by your standards?
I know I do.
The daily quote today centered around our dreams may seem out of reach for some, but as Walt Disney says, we just need the courage to pursue. Without courage, we never would have made it to the moon! Who knows if cake pops would even exist if some creative baker (the beauty that is Angie Dudley, to be exact) hadn't had the courage to think outside the box!
We all have our dreams, whether they be big or small, so now what we need to do is get active and start moving on them. For me, I wanted to start this blog and share...
"A little caring, a little sharing, that's all life is." - Osho
Osho was a spiritual teacher, guru, and mystic, who lived his life in India and inspired the Rajneesh Movement, one of the largest and most influential new religious movements of the 70s.
In today's interpretation, I encourage you to look at the importance of your close community and relationships. We all get so wrapped up in our own struggles and stress and can easily shut people out, but essentially we crave that companionship and empathy from an outside source. The hardest part about sharing is having the courage to do it, but the interconnectedness we gain by opening up allows us to share our perspective and learn from others. Everything we share and absorb information from ultimately shapes our perception of the world and life. Collaboration with others is what has brought us, brought YOU, to this day!
Allow yourself to be an open book and get closer to a group or person. We are strong in numbers and...
If you are like me or any of the +7 billion people that live on Earth, chances are you’ve woken up on the wrong side of the bed, “snoozed” your alarm and shoved a pillow over your head for another five minutes of sweet sleep. I tend to dread the day ahead, wishing I was free of all duties and had a hot date with the sun and the sand. Since that is rarely a possibility on the weekdays, I opted for a change in attitude and perspective. Our thoughts create our moods and emotions so it is essential to start your day off with positive thinking.
Let me start by saying I am not one to journal religiously. Sure, I’d kill for a fancy journal and a nice pen, but the habit of writing daily is just not for me (says the blogger). The Five-Minute Journal by Alex Ikonn and UJ Ramdas is an excellent option for those with commitment issues. After receiving the journal as a gift 30 days ago, this is what I’ve learned...
"To get good, it's helpful to be willing, or even enthusiastic, about being bad." - Daniel Coyle
Daniel Coyle is the author of The Talent Code: Greatness Isn't Born. It's Grown, and the daily quote for today is meant to inspire you to accept any mistakes or failures through your journey as a part of your growth. Many times we get discouraged when trying something new because we're practically wired to believe that skills and talents are pre-destined elements of our being when that is simply not the case.
Through the bad, the falls, the failures, the negative, the repetition of practice leads to progression and what we eventually view as "being good" at something. Athletes are great examples of putting this inspiration into play as it is absolutely essential to practice for their progression. Not everyone started out as the best swimmer of all-time or the best dancer of all-time. What's important is consistency, repetition, and...
