In fact, it wasn’t until the last few months that I really developed a home practice. As a new yoga teacher and freelance marketer, I found it increasingly difficult to attend studio classes on the days that I taught. I couldn’t take more than an hour or two away from my desk, so I had to choose: teach or practice.
Anyone else feel the same struggle?
The inconsistency of my yoga practice was weighing down on me - last year I spent a majority of my free time flowing! I had to make a shift because my muscles and mind were screaming at me for escape via asana and pranayama.
So, I made it my goal to step on my mat every day for at least 30 minutes.
At the beginning, boy, was this difficult.
I like to think that, while we try to leave the ego outside the four corners of our mats as often as possible, the accountability of a studio setting - having a teacher leading you, and other students around you -...
I love how the world is waking up around us to the crucial importance of how we treat the environment and the impacts of our actions. From documentaries to movements, to conscious bloggers and major panels, there is a consciousness revolution happening and everyone is invited to jump on the train.
Changing your entire lifestyle can be a hard ask.- Especially when we’re so comfortable with convenience. So, if you are interested in living a more conscious life keep reading because this post is for you.
As a self-proclaimed fashionista (lately of the yoga leggings and sports bra variety), the biggest change I knew I had to make was with the clothes I wore.
The fashion industry is the second top polluter in the entire world behind oil and outside of the environmental impacts, there’s a myriad of socio-economic impacts that are absolutely despicable... to the point where you have to wonder, if the truth was exposed (which it is), would you still buy your clothes from a...
“Relentless,” Lauryn said, “You have to pick: are you going to be relentless or are you going to be good? That’s the decision you have to make if you want to be great and get extraordinary results.”All the free courses in the world tell you that you need to be consistent... but, relentless?
That’s not a word I had heard often since I started blogging, and I LOVE IT- much like all the other juicy pieces of advice Lauryn Evarts, founder of The Skinny Confidential, dropped when we spoke last.
With over half a million followers on Instagram and a perfect 5-star rating on iTunes for The Skinny Confidential: Him & Her Podcast, it’s clear that Lauryn Evarts has cultivated an army of badass women across the globe.
It isn’t surprising to see her rockin’ Louboutins at the top of the blogging atmosphere, this girl slays at connecting with her audience.
While her and husband Michael Bosstick are experts at keepin’ it real and...
Last year, I read a blog on Mindbodygreen that said the best yoga practice for your astrological sign. Being a Scorpio, the author recommended I try Kundalini Yoga. As with any synchronicity, only a few days later during my 200-hour teacher training, we had a special guest come for two hours of Kundalini. I hated it. The intensity and the rise of emotions were too much for me at the time.
I swore off Kundalini for a few months until I started getting a familiar itch to try it again. That itch was followed by listening to The Balanced Blonde Podcast which had a featured episode on Kundalini yoga and high vibe living.
Both Britt and Tara come from a similar background as mine. Young, excited, and eager to explore the depths of the Self, a connection to a higher power within, and a thirst for personal and positive transformation.
Their energy is contagious and it’s hard not to get excited about their...
Have you ever walked into a room and instantly felt at ease? It’s like the culmination of energy built up in the atmosphere is waiting to take any tension, stress, or worry away. I like to think of it as magic because there’s something so spectacular about immediately feeling at home in a new environment. For a while, there weren’t many places in San Diego that held this light vibration in the air. I had been to Wanderlust Hollywood and Selva Armonia in Costa Rica, but San Diego couldn’t seem to get caught up to speed. Until Saffron & Sage opened in Mission Hills.
Founded by Cristin Smith, Saffron & Sage is THE ANSWER to San Diego’s lacking alternative wellness community.
In 2012, Cristin visited her doctor and received the news that tumors were found in her neck and thyroid. This began a year-long journey working with a multi-disciplinary team of practitioners from medical doctors to...
I’ll admit...I am NOT the type of person to develop habits easily. I don’t know if it’s pure laziness or disinterest, but making changes in my life is a slow moving train. I wish I had the type of motivation to adapt easily, I see friends start integrating these ah-mazing routines in their lives, going vegan or waking up every morning to head to the gym before the sun rises... But, that’s just not me.
So, when I actually do have a habit or routine stick, it means that it is the most kick ass routine ever. And, we’re all trying to live kick ass lives right?
In the past year, I have had four habits/routines that stick to me like glue and I’m going to share them with you because everyone deserves to feel as good, CLEAR and productive as I do when I am actively following these routines.
I try a lot of different things, throw a lot of crap at the wall hoping it’ll stick, but out of everything, below are my top five HELL YES things I try to...
Last month I was invited by a friend to join a writers group. Eight of us gathered on the living room floor and took turns sharing our writing experience and learning from each other the different ways we stay inspired. After I spoke, one of the writers looked at me and asked something along the lines of, “But, if you look to see what other people are writing about, don’t you feel like the topic is already exhausted? How can you add distinct value to something that’s already been discussed?” This question has been ruminating in my headspace since then because I believe it calls out a much bigger issue that creatives deal with:
If someone has already done it, why should I?
Why shouldn’t you?
I come from a digital marketing and SEO (search engine optimization) background and I have hundreds of hours of my head being buried in search analytics, keyword research, and trending queries. Don’t know what any of that is? Don’t worry, it...
Authenticity is an elusive quality that we all crave in our personal or professional lives. We want to be our unapologetic selves, we want to launch a brand that represents our passions and we want to buy from companies that do the same. It's a no brainer.
But, often times, authenticity falls to the wayside.
When it comes to your brand, whether you're starting a business or becoming a yoga teacher, it is absolutely indispensable to maintain authenticity in order to be successful and gain that true following.
When you’re starting out teaching or launching a brand, think about it this way:
Is it easier for you to talk about something you are deeply passionate about or something that you think other people will approve of?
Most likely, you chose the former.
It’s easy to get caught up in what should be or what others like, but losing sight of your "WHY" and what really motivates you to...
When I first began my yoga journey, I’ll admit, I did it for the toned abs and tight butt. I mean, who could blame me? We see these beautiful inspirational women flexing around in athletic wear and think yoga is the answer to all our physical worries. And it is, to a certain extent, but there is so much more that is unlocked after you’ve developed a steady practice.Once I had practiced yoga consistently for six months, I noticed a subtle shift in my psyche. Over time, it turned into a change in my awareness. Awareness not only of myself but the world around me and how my actions shape the planet. I became hyper-focused on each moment, each decision I made and the repercussions.
I began to dig deep within myself and when I cultivated that awareness and focus the outside world started to shift. I felt as if I was truly seeing things for as they were. Notably, I felt incredibly turned off by the constant blaring advertisements from clothing brands pushing people to...
Life has been the definition of serene up until two weeks ago. Since I had returned from South America, it has been a smooth transition from world traveler to settling down in a cottage by the beach. I was lucky to find a job that allows me the flexibility to work from home while still managing and growing Kicking Asana. I’ve been able to get back into my yoga practice, which was severely interrupted while globetrotting, and I’ve been able to explore new areas of knowledge, spiritual practices, and deepen my connection to Self.
Over the past two weeks, I have been inundated with noise. Some good, some bad, and some experiences that just made me scratch my forehead wondering, why all at once?
It started with lunch - All-You-Can-Eat sushi to be exact.
I know, I know, how can an abundance of sushi ever be a bad thing?
However, the conversations that led shortly after opened up the...
